Introduction :

 The department of English was established in year 1997, in the same year of opening of college with Compulsory, Additional and Optional English for undergraduate classes. Department of English is constantly working for quality education. Department has well equipped language laboratory for development of students in language. It helps students for language proficiency. Department is providing adequate learning resources and necessary number of books are available in departmental library and in central library. Department has introduced short term courses like spoken English and remedial coaching for slow learners, whenever demanded. Literary Association of department of English has availed a platform to students for their development and also it helps in creating interest in literature. Students of department are very enthusiastic in wallpaper presentation.  University has introduced applied syllabus to commerce faculty and traditional syllabus for faculty of arts and science in the subject of English. British literature, American literature, Indian writings in English, phonetics, grammar and other writings are mainly introduced to undergraduate students. Department has four faculty members, Dr. Joshi M.P. and Dr. Shehjad Sidiquii has completed research work leading to Ph.D. Mr. Tumwad S.D. has completed M. Phil degree and is pursuing for Ph.D. Mr. Jadhav S.A. is willing to register for Ph.D. and he is working for same.

Scope and Importance of Department :

English Plays very important role in our everyday life. English is a world language. English plays vital role in our life. Programmes offered to students are applied and is helpful for career. It helps to develop a broad knowledge in basic fields of humanities. Prescribed syllabus helps to develop proficiency in English. It offers necessary knowledge for competitive examinations.

Studies in department of English do not merely aim at the development of academic competency and professional skills but also aim to develop social, cultural awareness in students. It plays very important role in shaping global culture. After completing degree with subject English, there are number of opportunities available for students. English plays important role in career in the era of globalization. Number of jobs are available for students of English in sectors like media, journalism, corporate sector, public relations, teaching, advertizing and many more.

English literature opens a treasure of knowledge to students and provides a lots of potential career paths.
