Department of Geography was established in June 1997 and post graduation started in June 2001, with the motto to impart geographical knowledge among the student of the rural area. The department is student centric. All the practical activities and procedures of the department are planned and implemented in the view of the students development and welfare. To promote the application of Geographical knowledge to aware society environmental problems. Department making students competent who can integrate the domains of geography and can apply their knowledge to issues concerning people, places, and environments. The department tries to inculcate healthy attitudes, civics responsibility and values among the students by organizing various extension activities. Department tries to generate the feelings of brotherhood, unity and national integration among the students of various casts, creed, and religion by encouraging them to work together in various activities Socio-Economic survey of villages to identify the problems of villagers.
The Importance of Geography
1. “ The study of the earth’s surface as the space within which the human population lives” (PiterHugget, 1981) .
2. “Geography is orderly knowledge of the diversity of the earth as the world of man.” (Jan Broke, 1965)
3. “Geography offers a broad synoptic view of spatial relationship in human affairs.” (Smith, 1977)
4. “Geography is that part of a whole science which deals with the interrelationship between social processes on the one hand and spatial processes on the other hand.” (Marxist geographer, 1977)
5. “Geography is the study of the earth. It explains the varieties found in the various parts of the earth. In it incidents and active relations are considered especially important.”
The Scope of Geography
1. Geography is the study of the Earth and its lands features, inhabitation and phenomena.
2. Geography is very wide subject and can be used in number of occasions. (eg: discovering our parts, predicting the future)
3. Geography is also linked with many other subject like science, history etc.
4. With Geography, we explore many natural and man-made wonders on Earth and learn how to maintain them.
5. Geography also looks at the economic and cultural sides of different countries (include society and living style).
6. Our everyday weather is prescribed by Geography. (eg: Rain, wind, cloud etc.)
7. All natural phenomena are explained with by Geography (eg: volcanoes, hurricanes etc.)
8. Geography looks the incredible variety of animals on our planet.(their shape and size, way of life, locations.)
9. Not only animals but also plants too.
10. Geography existed before we knew about it. (when we used to draw maps, when we started to pollute our environment etc.)
11. Geography helps us to integrated images from separate independent bits of evidences. In many circumstances, geographic knowledge is required to complete problem solving tasks.
12. Geography is useful not only for effectively participating in our daily life, such as helping to remember the location of ATM’s, shopping Centre’s and routes to schools , at all other scales of living.
13. Federal and state policies are implemented at region and local levels, and the process of regionalization is in essence, spatial classification.
So, we read geography –

· Because we see every day.
· Because it explain most of the nature.
· Because help us to understand, the life, we share with our planet.
· Because it tells us the story of our planet.
· Because we would not exist if it was not.
· Because with geography, we can help our planet in the future.
